LGBTQIA+
WELCOMING STATEMENT
Queen Anne Baptist Church believes that all people are created in the image and likeness of God. As followers of Jesus Christ, we seek to participate through the Spirit in radical solidarity by welcoming and affirming all people - inclusive of race, ethnicity, age, faith history, economic status, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, physical and mental ability, national or geographic origin, and education. We honor and celebrate the full expressions and callings of our LGBTQIA+ siblings in all positions of the church, from membership to leadership. We will continue to baptize, have communion with, ordain, marry, bury, and do ministry alongside our LGBTQIA+ siblings. The Good News of Jesus Christ calls us to stand with the marginalized and oppressed as we move toward the embodiment of beloved community.

A little bit about the process....
At our 2021 Annual Meeting in June, our membership made the decision to enter a one-year discernment process to become a Welcoming and Affirming church, the official designation for Baptist churches that welcome and affirm LGBTQIA+ individuals. This process included two Learning and two Listening sessions throughout the year, where the congregation was invited to learn more about what it means to welcome and affirm LGTBQ+ individuals, and to listen to one another and ask questions. The first learning session was held on Sunday, September 26, 2021, where we learned more about the LGBTQ+ community and definitions. We held a listening session on Sunday, November 7, 2021, and our final learning session with the Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists was Sunday, January 9, 2022. At the Annual Meeting in the spring of 2022, the congregation held a final session and decided to move forward in the process of becoming welcoming and affirming. They gave the leadership council of QABC the task of creating a statement of inclusion, which was approved in October 2022.
