At our 2021 Annual Meeting in June, our membership made the decision to enter a one-year discernment process to become a Welcoming and Affirming church, the official designation for Baptist churches that welcome and affirm LGBTQ+ individuals. This process includes two Learning and two Listening sessions throughout the year, where the congregation is invited to learn more about what it means to welcome and affirm LGTBQ+ individuals, and to listen to one another and ask questions. At the final listening session in the spring of 2022, should the congregation wish to move forward, a statement of inclusion will be crafted to be approved at the 2022 Annual Meeting of the church.
The first learning session was held on Sunday, September 26th, where we learned more about the LGBTQ+ community and definitions. We held a listening session on Sunday, November 7th, and our next learning session with the Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists is Sunday, January 9th at 1 p.m.
Please speak to Pastor Mindi for more information about our process.
