Welcome from Pastor Mindi

Call to Worship

(from Gen. 1:27; Psalm 8:5-6; Eph. 2:10)
God created humankind in God’s image,
Male and female, all of us, created by God, and blessed in goodness.
When we look at the heavens, the work of God’s fingers,
What are human beings that God is mindful of us?
Yet God made us a little lower than the angels,
And we have been entrusted to care for all creation.
We are what God has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works,
Which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.
This is good news: we are God’s beloved children,
Called into service and worship of our God.

Prayer of Invocation led by Pastor Mindi

Opening Praise Songs led by Duane Davis and Pastor Mindi

10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)

(chorus)
Bless the Lord o my soul, o my soul
Worship His Holy name
Sing like never before, O my soul
I'll worship Your Holy name

The sun comes up, it's a new day dawning
It's time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass, and whatever lies before me
Let me be singing when the evening comes

(chorus)

You're rich in love and You're slow to anger
Your name is great and Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find

(chorus)

And on that day when my strength is failing
The end draws near and my time has come
Still my soul will sing Your praise unending
Ten thousand years and then forevermore

(chorus twice)

Yes I'll worship Your Holy name
I'll worship Your Holy name

In Christ Alone

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand

The Lord's Prayer

(we invite you to recite whatever version you have learned)
Our God in heaven,
Holy be your name,
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our sins,
As we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us in the time of trial,
And deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.
Amen.

Scripture Reading

Scripture Reading: Mark 2:1-12 (New Revised Standard Version)
(You may read whatever version you wish)

When he returned to Capernaum after some days, it was reported that he was at home. So many gathered around that there was no longer room for them, not even in front of the door; and he was speaking the word to them. Then some people came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them.

And when they could not bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him; and after having dug through it, they let down the mat on which the paralytic lay. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”

Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, “Why does this fellow speak in this way? It is blasphemy! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” At once Jesus perceived in his spirit that they were discussing these questions among themselves; and he said to them, “Why do you raise such questions in your hearts?

Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Stand up and take your mat and walk’? But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins” —he said to the paralytic— “I say to you, stand up, take your mat and go to your home.”

And he stood up, and immediately took the mat and went out before all of them; so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”

Sermon:  "Listening from the Heart"  Pastor Mindi

Closing Hymn

I Love to Tell the Story

I love to tell the story
Of unseen things above
Of Jesus and His glory
Of Jesus and His love
I love to tell the story
Because I know 'tis true
It satisfies my longings
As nothing else can do

Chorus
I love to tell the story
'Twill be my theme in glory
To tell the old old story
Of Jesus and His love

I love to tell the story
'Tis pleasant to repeat
What seems each time I tell it
More wonderfully sweet
I love to tell the story
For some have never heard
The message of salvation
From God's own holy Word

(chorus)

I love to tell the story
For those who know it best
Seem hungering and thirsting
To hear it like the rest
And when in scenes of glory
I sing the new new song
'Twill be the old old story
That I have loved so long

(chorus)

Communion

I invite you, if you have not already, to get your bread and juice or wine ready for communion.

This is Christ’s table, wherever we are gathered. The early followers of Jesus gathered in their homes, bringing together the food they had, along with bread and wine, and shared in the love feast of Christ together. All are welcome who wish to know Jesus, whether you believe a little or believe a lot, whether you have questions or doubts, or whether you have the faith to move mountains. This is Christ’s table.

As we gather in our homes, we remember that Christ is present with us, now and always. Christ is present with us in these simple gifts of the bread and the cup, for he told us to do this in remembrance of him. Wherever we are gathered, whenever we eat this bread and drink this cup, we are remembering Christ’s death and resurrection. We are taking notice that Christ is with us, in this moment, now.

Invitation to the Table
(Mark 14:22-25)
While they were eating, Jesus took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it, gave it to them, and said, “Take; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them, and all of them drank from it. He said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. Truly I tell you, I will never again drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”

Let us pray:
With grateful hearts, O God, we come to Christ’s table: remembering that You spoke creation into existence and pronounced it good;
Remembering that You called servants to make Your word known and declared Your reign;
Remembering that through Jesus Christ we have salvation and have been reconciled to You.

Be known to us now, through the gift of Your Spirit,
In the breaking of the bread and drinking of the cup:
Renew Your image within us;
Restore our trust in Your love;
Refresh our spirits for caring service.
Join us with all Your people everywhere in praise for Your everlasting love.

I invite you now, as Jesus did long ago, and as the early followers of Jesus gathered in their homes, to take the bread. This is Christ’s body, given for you. Take, eat, and do this in remembrance of him.

In the same manner, we take the cup, and remember Christ’s words that this is the new covenant, Christ’s blood shed for all for forgiveness of sins. Take, drink, and do this in remembrance of him.
