Mindi Welton-Mitchell, Senior Pastor
The Rev. Mindi Welton-Mitchell was born in Eugene, Oregon, but was raised in Alaska. She attended Linfield College (an American Baptist College) in McMinnville, Oregon, and graduated with a degree in Creative Writing in 1999. From there, she attended Andover Newton Theological School in Newton, Massachusetts, receiving her Master of Divinity degree in 2002. Upon graduation, she began serving as the Associate Minister for Christian Education at First Baptist Church in Newton, Massachusetts, and was ordained into the Christian Ministry on June 8th, 2003. She also has served as the Senior Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Framingham, Massachusetts, and was the Pastor of Burien Community Church for five years. Previously, she served as a hospital chaplain in Oklahoma for two years.
She is married to Rev. J.C. Mitchell. Their son A.J. has autism, and is still primarily non-verbal, though he will say “hi,” “bye,” and “I want pizza, please.”
Pastor Mindi, or Mindi (either will be fine) is a 5th generation ordained American Baptist pastor, starting with her great-great-grandfather A.B. Withers in West Virginia. After Mindi was ordained, her mother Sarah Welton received a local ordination from Church of the Covenant in Palmer, Alaska, which is Mindi’s home church.
Mindi enjoys playing guitar, reading, hiking and camping, and writing. Mindi belongs to a writer’s group and enjoys writing everything from poetry and nonfiction to science fiction and fantasy.
Mindi, J.C., and A.J. look forward to getting to know the Queen Anne Baptist Church family and the greater community, and listening to where the Holy Spirit is calling us to work together.
J.C. Mitchell, Minister of Christian Education
